oh hey.
got challenged by matt shogi.

"It has to use a SID (emulated or hardware), sidechains, lsdj, must have trance section, at least one major cliff-hanger, have a eurohouse pad, and a daft punk sample just for kicks. it has to be awesome and can't sound like justice. make it happen."

this is some new stuff.
decided to forgo the usual crazy psychotic arpage
and focus on cleaning everything up and building it all together. :)
sampled a lot of stuff,
and used a lot of chipz,
and mixed a lot of stuff.

hope you like it ;)

• smiletron : ant1, you've got it exactly right :) the majority of the audience this will be aimed at isnt gonna be listening on high end expensive stuff. and if they are, well, that stuff has some kind of EQ they can adjust :P
on November 29th 2009, 10:47 AM
• ant1 : Sounds like you boosted the upper mids quite a bit, in this song and in some of your others too. Works really well on laptop speakers and smaller speakers, not so well on expensive headphones. Well, I guess that's a trade-off you can decide to make, or not, and a lot of casual listeners will just be using tinny speakers (maybe even a radio set :P) or earbud headphones, so maybe it was a good decision. Unfortunately makes it more uncomfortable to listen on headphones. You seem to really know what you are doing as far as production goes and getting the sounds you want to get. Well done. :-)

• chipzel : david you dick. save some talent for the rest of us :P this is incredibawwwwl

• Batmanifestdestiny : epic song is epic.
on November 25th 2009, 12:01 PM
• Dr. Zilog : Dude this is fucking amazing. Those bass tones sound disgustingly awesome.
on November 24th 2009, 06:34 PM
• tacticalbread : how did I miss this? You are fuckin' amazing, dood.
on November 24th 2009, 04:38 PM
• smiletron : sidechaining is just having one effect basing its operation off input from another track. in this case, the kick is controlling the compression of various other instruments making that swelling sound you hear at times.
on November 24th 2009, 04:12 PM
• BrettMoots : What is sidechain? I keep seeing that term. This song is good!
on November 24th 2009, 04:00 PM
• themediashow : this is super-sweet :)
on November 23rd 2009, 07:31 AM
• Boo<3 : i came. alot...
on November 22nd 2009, 06:57 PM
• drewids : I could stick this on loop, and listen to it for hours. Oh wait i just did. :)
on November 22nd 2009, 06:38 AM
• irbis : congratulations with silver;)
on November 22nd 2009, 03:00 AM
• smiletron : @cheapshot the vocal sample is daft punk :) and yeah there is a lot of sidechain compression happening!
on November 22nd 2009, 12:09 AM
• cheapshot : is the vocal sample you're own? The compression in the mid section is HUGE!
on November 21st 2009, 09:11 PM
• FireFlower : I wasn't expecting something that good with that kind of challenge and timeframe. Great stuff.
on November 21st 2009, 02:08 PM
• smiletron : @ clerik its in the daft punk sample, couldn't filter the hihats out :(
on November 21st 2009, 01:57 PM
• Clerik : Pretty cool. It sounds to me like there is a clicking sound in the vocal sample that seems to throw it out of tempo.
on November 21st 2009, 01:48 PM
• U-bit : Dude, you missed out the usual crazy psychotic arpage. Only kidding, great song, will download tomorrow. =J
on November 21st 2009, 01:42 PM
• Cyberdelic : that bass
on November 20th 2009, 12:53 PM
• IntruderAlert : I LALALALOVE DAVID.
on November 20th 2009, 12:26 AM
• smiletron : suprisingly, all the leads are chip (minus the piano obviously). thank you for the compliment :)
on November 19th 2009, 12:09 PM
• ButlerShade : How can gravity keep you down when your a Demigod? I have a challenge for you, stop raping my earholes and blowing my brain goo out of it's skull case. As much as I loved this song the voices should have just been similair sounds. makes it seem less chiptune, I still wouldn't change it Great Job.

• smiletron : its was only about 6 hours of work... i have a lot of instruments and effect settings saved so its just a matter of organizing everything and writing the melodies... then mastering of course :P
on November 15th 2009, 10:23 PM

• smiletron : also, cheesy crowd sample in the trance section ftw...
on November 15th 2009, 06:07 PM
• smiletron : thanks guys < 3... i thought about using this as my next single but getting licensing for the daft punk samples would be HELL. oh god it hurts to think about how much money that would cost. thanks for all the support!

on November 15th 2009, 02:28 PM
• SpareTimeHero : A Great track! I do agree with dexter though, even if they are just defined, it sounds a bit resonancey in some parts, mainly where the lead instrument gets to a more higher note/octave.
on November 15th 2009, 07:13 AM
• villewannabe : Loving the bass. The piano section is incredible. People need to do more stuff like that, it brings a nice epic feeling to it, even though its a club tune.
on November 15th 2009, 06:20 AM
• Matt Shogi : what did i tell you, sonnnnnnnn. hahah
on November 15th 2009, 12:03 AM
• Robot City : damn nice job dude
on November 14th 2009, 12:36 PM
• smiletron : its not resonance. just mid and high end definition and they are necessary :)
on November 14th 2009, 12:32 PM
• Dexter : this is pretty good but it sounds like everything is drenched in resonance which leaves quite an unpleasant feeling when listening with headphones
on November 14th 2009, 11:50 AM
• Pompei : I love you.
on November 14th 2009, 06:42 AM

on November 13th 2009, 12:33 AM
• µB : Very well produced, and you covered the challenge points nicely. Unfortunately, I can't stand this kind of music, so much so that even parodies make me gag. :/ 10 points for technique. Is the 48hr challenge back in biz, then? That would be most welcome, I always liked the concept.
