MY FIRST CHIPBREAKZBRKBRKBRK (30 min. challenge - chipbreak)

Uploaded by retroboytimo on November 3rd 2009, 03:15 PM

as the title says. my first chipbreak. I made this in 30 minutes, challenged by Select. I had a lot of fun making this :) it's made with renoise, which I'm learning, so the breaks aren't that great. also made with YMvst and samples + effects. and Renoise offcourse. • ColeTrain : I'm down with dirty snares but not when all of the percussion is distorted. I've just barely skimmed the basics of breakcore and I'm completely awful at it. Great job for a first song though. The melody is great. Keep practicing and I'm sure you could get great at this.

  • retroboytimo : thanks a lot guys! :D @???; I can understand that the pitch of some samples are hard to hear, but I really like grimey distorted breaks myself, but I will deffo make the breaks more clear sounding when I'm going to upload a new chipbreak! thanks so much.

  • ??? : Nice work! i know it's not the place to say something like this, but the drums could be clearer or just a bit louder. They don't sound very good in my opinion, but that's only my opinion. We don't really hear the pitch mod of the break samples. You could make these effect a bit longer (that one or two step)... The melody is great too. Good job tracking this thing in 30 min. How do you people get to be challenged???

  • retroboytimo : Wow! :D thanks a lot guys! @pompei; I'm still working on making my own breakbeat loops, so they'll be there next time! @ able archer; I've been using the Amen breakloop as a sample, but I chopped it up at some places and put a whole lot of distortion on it for the filthyness, I got that idea from Onomatopee, he's using very filthy breaks aswell. and @ IAYD; thanks a lot, I'm going to upload it and put a link in the description.

  • Able Archer : what samples are you rockin? tasty

  • Pompei : Really likin' the modulation you have going on on that melody. Though I think you should have got some other drum samples. :/ Though you only had 30 minutes, so I don't blame you. Great job though! Great for only 30 minutes.

  • argent s : i like it. the melodies are nice which is good cause it seems that in a lot of chipbreak the melodies are almost an afterthought and it's all about blasting your ears off, which personally i'm not much of a fan of. i'd just keep working on those drums. they sound good to me for a first try (i'm terrible at making breaks and keeping them interesting so i know it can be hard)
