Rainbow Brite (YM2612 PSG ver.)

Uploaded by nobuyuki on January 14th 2010, 12:10 AM

Let's go on a nostalgia blast, FM-synthesis style. My first collaboration with Kattywampus, and an "I ♠ the 80s" remix.

  • nobuyuki : I used modplug tracker for this one; the psg is a recorded sample with some artificial degradation of the square wave already in it when it was recorded as part of the original replayer engine

  • moreSID : Nobuyuki, you use sn76489 for the main melody ? I am wondering what software you use for this track ? ( between 1:50 and 1:55 we hear the square wave not being totally clean, has aliasing maybe )

  • themediashow : You spayed the 80s?! How on earth are we ever going to get adorable 80s kittens now? When people do covers I wish they'd make it abundantly clear they're covers... though I suppose that raises some issues copyright-wise? I frequently use songs I've found in 8bc on my show, so that passes copyright liability on to us... but then, I guess it's probably better for all of us if covers fly under the radar? I've seen big-label bands do covers and just not mention them in their track listing, which seems to be one approach to avoiding scrutiny.

  • AlexLuthor : This is great! Those are sonic drums right? Only thing I can fault is that the bass seems to go a bit mute/distorted at the lowest notes, perhaps some tweaking could fix that.

  • Kattywampus : All that, plus a bag of chiptunes, BOYYY!

  • Jredd : Cool, nice happy Sega Mega Drive/Genesis sounds going on here. I'm getting a bit of a Ristar vibe here, but it's certainly a unique sound in it's own right. Well done man. :)

  • chibi-tech : "it doesn't sound like chiptune" = "not enough LSDJ hipster bassdrum kicks on every downbeat". Too bad son, you heard the guy.

  • SPASZAKI : Of course it sounds like a chiptune because it's on FM chip. You know what FM synthesis is? Good one, anyway.

  • mcfiredrill : I ENJOY

  • Gigabyte : it doesn't sound like chiptune, but good nonetheless. I could imagine it being played as background music for a tarzan game or something
