Better than Cigarettes (LSDJ C64 2600 Vocals now with Lyrics )

Uploaded by neutro on September 23rd 2009, 09:54 PM

This is an attempt to use more stuff at once. Its 3 gameboys (2 running LSDJ, 1 running electric drum) a C64 running Cynthcart and a 2600 running Synthcart. The vox are done with a cheap little mic thru a distortion pedal, plus a stack of Logic processing. The whole thing has been prodded a lot with Logic... What do ya think? ********EDIT:********* see lyrics at http://docs.google.com/View?id=djtsd2c_1cnbr8pg3

  • Ultrasyd : Not really fond of voice and singing, but the composition is great, and I think that you made a great stuff with all those synced machines. I don't think that using all the channels on all the devices is useful, and I guess it's not what you tried to do. Thumb up !

  • neutro : If anyone wants to know what I think, I think that LSDJ isn't so great for drums (with the exception of the noise channel). I think i either need to make some monster kick and snare samples using lsdpatcher and little-scales technique, or move to over to MidiNes for drums. I've noticed other people get a much better drum sound with MidiNes..

  • Lunar Synthetic : please do more songs like this! Its so cool sounding! and the vocals are perfect I think =) SOO MANY SOUNDS! I love it xD
    on September 24th 2009, 07:23 PM
  • neutro : thanks FreezeDream. Do you mean the vocals are too loud and/or dry for your taste? Needs more distortion? reverb? delay? usually I'm told my vocals need to be more upfront! =]... It's a tricky balance.. maybe even more so when making vocals to suit chip.. can you recommend another chip artist with vocals I should listen to as an example?
    on September 24th 2009, 07:21 PM
  • freezedream : Great track! :D I think the vocals would grow on me and I thought they could sit a bit better in the mix.
    on September 24th 2009, 06:12 PM
  • little-scale : I'm diggin this! :D Nice vocals mate
    on September 24th 2009, 05:52 PM
  • neutro : thanks Karac! anyone with criticism that still gives me a like is definitely worth listening to.... I guess I like pushing things to be as ruptured as possible for the excitement factor, but I could look at including more 'anticipation' type moments.

  • Jellica : nat=not
    on September 24th 2009, 11:12 AM
  • Jellica : i was intreged by all the kit. nat bad but thought that you could probably do so much more with so many channels with so much space to use.
    on September 24th 2009, 11:12 AM
  • FearofDark : The vocals were good, and the song was awesome:D Any chance we could have lyrics?
    on September 24th 2009, 09:13 AM
  • neutro : The LSDJs are synced and programmed, and the ElectDrum, Synthcart and Cynthcart were all played live, so five tracks were recorded at once. Then I recorded the Vox and an extra gameboy line separately and funked up the structure a bit by muting things etc.
    on September 24th 2009, 06:30 AM
  • Funkster : This is great stuff! Is all the equipment synchronised and playing together somehow, or is it recorded separately and composited together later? Top result either way, good work on the vocals too.
    on September 24th 2009, 04:47 AM
  • Vytantus : hahaha noice 'stralian vocals man, seriously good. Its quite dischordal, very pleasingly so :) Be hanging around for you to smash out some of that other equipment you've modified
    on September 23rd 2009, 11:43 PM
  • villewannabe : great =| i liek dischordal. i also liek how you stacked a thousand devices. the mixing is great, I'm in a classroom and had to pause once in a while to hear if something is coming from the song or from the environment. it's like surround but i only have headphones :D the composition is good aswell. charts fer sure or i will hurt someone :D ps. your icon is great. MY FAVE COLORS :)

  • Lone Zero : Damn man, this is phenomenal. I thought from the description that it might be a bit crowded but its just the right depth. Vocals work brilliantly.

  • Human Amongst Robots : holy fuck....this is so damn good! downloaded for sure
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:59 PM
  • neutro : Ha! I'm too dischordal! Awesome! ... I usually feel like I'm a cheese machine...
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:55 PM
  • Reteris : I like how you mixed all the different stuff, but the melody was to dischordal for my taste
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:46 PM
  • Golem : The melody is enjoyable, but what really shines is the instrumentation/production. Love it!
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:15 PM
  • prag.Modul : i had high hopes for this, but some of the parts clashed a lot. i don't know if that's what you were going for or not but i'm not into those kinds of dischords.
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:13 PM
  • FTF : Oh and the non-autotuned vocals are quite refreshing. :)
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:10 PM
  • FTF : This song is better than cigs, and I love 'em! :P
    on September 23rd 2009, 10:08 PM
