The Angst-Riddled Finale (2A03 VRC6)

Uploaded by mathgrant on October 5th 2009, 09:35 PM

Original description when I posted this song last year: "I came up with a riff earlier while eating lunch, and decided to experiment with it. This vaguely speed metal-ish song resulted. I could imagine this song being used in an NES game in the area leading up to the final boss, or potentially in the battle with said final boss. I dunno. . . any place where a muddy guitar or chiptune equivalent thereof would be appropriate." Now very slightly changed from before, with slight VRC6-ness! (originally posted July 5, 2008)

  • mathgrant : You guys and your speed boats and your helicopters and your guns. I'll never be able to satisfy you with my old music that I updated by moving the Triangle melody to the Sawtooth channel so the Triangle channel never has to stop playing rapid-fire kicks. ;)

  • 2PLAYER : the lead on the top of this is really spot on for the type of nes game you describe. i will have to disagree with norrin radd here though. it feels more like a helicopter level where you are sitting in the side gunner seat and shooting down various other aerial vehicles. on second thought, the main lead may be a little too loud and busy at times

  • Norrin_Radd : I actually dig the muddy guitar tone parts. Probably because it reminds me of actual NES music from games like Top Gun: The Second Mission for F1 Sensation. Just full speed NES guitar driven metal. I too can picture this song being in a game. I actually see it as beeing a speed boat level, chasing the main bad guy or something. Not sure why. In any case, cool track dude!

  • Golem : Overall it's pretty nice, and the high-pitched melody definitely works. However, I feel the muddy guitar part could be more interesting. The song sort of drags on at parts because of the amount of attention the muddy guitar gets. (Dunno how helpful that is for a song that's a year old! :x)
