END OF 3RDS (AN ORIGINAL TRACK, BASTED WITH MEMORIES OF THE ORIGINAL SONIC GAMES

Uploaded by dragline on December 26th 2009, 11:36 AM

I love the original Sonic games for the Genesis. Originally I spawned this song as I was recalling the end theme to Sonic 3. As is always the case, the song grew wildly, and ended up somewhere different than where it started- but I have no qualms with that because I'm pleased with the final product. I had no intention of mirroring an actual Sonic song, but rather just to give it that slight Sonic flavor. Again, I spent over 20 hours on this song, producing much material that didn't actually make it into the final version. Enjoy!

  • dragline : Thank you very much for your input Taxi. It's nice to get someone elses educated opinion on my stuff. I spend so much time trying to analyze it all on my own that it drives me up the wall sometimes.

  • Cartoon Bomb : I like the mix of true sounding 8-bit and VSTs(?) here. It has just a slight Sonic flavor, and it really makes me want to try something like this (you know, not a cover but a song inspired by). The mix seems pretty perfect to me dude. I know it's hard to gauge when you are doing it yourself. One thing I've always done when mixing (though it probably doesn't show): Let it play through your speaks, turn the volume up, and listen to it from another room. The sonic samples are NOT overdone...OK maybe sometimes the "losing rings"/getting a ring effect is just a little overdone, but they only bothered me when really paying attention to them. I would say they don't take anything away, but they don't really contribute anything either. The spring samples as a bass of sorts was a great idea, I thought they sounded cool when I was a kid too.
