Wednesday Chip (C64)

Uploaded by cTrix on May 30th 2009, 08:30 AM

Prog-style appeg-chaos on the C64 with a slightly eeevvil feel at the start. Full of all the usual chord/mode changes, and banging 80's rock beat and the everlasting hunt for more polyphony! In this case 3 channels. Recorded out of the good old C64 multi-pin socket with screen blanked in the playcode for better SNR. Tastes even better with chilli sauce. Enjoy

  • L-tron : Love that first melody that comes in. Very evil sounding at first but that melody just makes it dark and beautiful at the same time. Top notch stuff, man!

  • cTrix : @celsius: Nothing can beat Dave's Insanity chilli sauce mate. We should have a chip and chilli night - get us all in a bright white room and eat a teaspoon full each then record the reactions and use the resulting samples cut up into micro waveforms to make a tune. Call it Dave's Total Insanity Chip Project. @Norris_Rad: It is all 4/4 but you can do odd timings easily with the method I use - might pop out a 7/8 tune at some point - being my fav timing from my old prog-metal days. You've got to make sure all the pattern data adds up to the same number of ticks on time sig changes else the parts offset in the sequencer and it all gets very messy to work with. @bulletflu: Baloon deflating... nice! Thanks for continued comments. Will get another tune up here soon.

  • Disasterpeace : @Norrin_Radd: This is a great track but it's still 4/4 if you ask me, the 7+9 in this case is just the result of an anticipated rhythm (the downbeat happening an eighth note before) :)

  • cTrix : Wow! Thanks ppls. I didn't expect much of a response. Sorry it takes me so long to get tunes done - I just spend a stupid amount of time tweaking. Am heading to Assembly and Evoke demoparties, then there is Syntax too so you can expect a few more tunes before the years out ;-)

  • little-scale : Amazing track. I have to say that although Chipsters was an awesome release, and had many great tracks, your track was a true stand out for me and added a sense of greater depth and variety to the compilation than it would have otherwise had without you on it. Great sounds, excellent composition. Very slick stuff, cTrix! Also, still loving your avatar ;-) /me clicks like button.

  • (alt)Bro : Yes! Heard this song on Chipsters 2. For some reason this song makes me think of like.. Bladerunner or Neuromancer, it sounds like a city.

  • Norrin_Radd : Oh man. It's so nice to hear someone trying hybrid meters and complex rhythms with SIDs. Everyone is always like, "Yay, sids and straight forward techno dance, yaya!". This is one of the most refreshing c64 tracks I've ever heard dude. Way outside the box! 7/8 9/8 ftw!

    on May 30th 2009, 10:32 AM
  • CCIVORY : i like that your snare is carried out longer than most of the c64 tracks on here :) also this IS a bangin rock beat! at first i was a bit confused (i think maybe the higher arps are a bit confusing to the melody/rythm imo) but this song is quickly and easily engaging :D
