Datafunk

Funky fusion with wank solo! YM2413 + YM2149. I bought an MSX2 with an FM-PAK (dutch FM-Pac clone) hoping to make some music for it, so I arranged this thing in fruityloops, "translated" it to MuSICA (one of the less cryptic MML flavors on the MSX), making it sound good in an emulator. Well, it turns out that the internal mixing of FM/PSG on my machine is a bit off compared to emulation, and the YM2413 drums don't sound quite like they should. Well, I'm not having that, so here's a recording from the emulator instead.

  • boomlinde : Yes, you have to emulate a PAL system, or exit the program and load/run NTSCFUNK.BAS instead.

  • Aerotype : Is it just me or is this recording slower than the rom or .dsk or whatever you provided in your msx/musica tutorial? I played it using bluemsx, maybe I need to change the settings...

For those interested, here's a disk image with the relevant files (auto booting PAL player, NTSC version, MML source, MuSICA voice data fruityloops file (which will need VOPM, ymVST and the five drum samples from little-scale's YM2413 sample pack)): mixtape.be/stuff/datafunk.rar

  • Golem : Funk's awesome, and this tune kept me going the whole time. The background instruments/percussion felt repetitive, but the melody was pretty great.
