Save a Prayer

Does this count as 8-bit music? :B Oh well... here it is anyway! --- A cover of the Brillaint "Save A Prayer" by Duran Duran. The special thing about this track is that it was A) All played by hand, including drums and B) Produced only using a Casio VL-1 and a set of Mattel Synsonics Drums. The drums go out of sync now and then, but those things are hard to play. You have to strike the pad with such force it's unreal. All the sounds in this apart from the 'Violin' Pre-set are were programmed by me using the ADSR function of the VL-1. The only effects applied to the instruments are the fruity-delay, the fruity-reverb, the Parametric EQ and the Multi-band Compressor. A Fruity-Limiter is also on the master track. Enjoy the song. Constructive criticism is welcomed and appreciated. Cover version © Ben Anderson 2008 Original © Duran Duran 1981

  • PSS-270 : Incredible casio-core stuff. And playing 'by hand' is cool. :)

  • dotdUmmy : Much love. This is one of my fave Duran tunes and you did it sexy/mysterious justice. THIS IS TOTALLY CHIP.

  • Subway Sonicbeat : I wish that you could sing this song. I loved the sound and I have the same question as you (that if this song is considered 8bit). Anyway, i really enjoyed the drums, not that out of sync, cool sounds.

  • benanderson89 : @Jellica: I've looked for midis, they're all out of tune with the actual song. Besides, I think it sounds fine without the vocals.

  • Jellica : "I don't know the notes used for the vocals" - you could probably find a midi file if you cant be arsed to figure it out.

  • benanderson89 : @ AlexLuthor: The drums are the one that are out of sync. I've already fixed them by sequencing them rather than hand-playing them but I can't figure out to upload hte new audio file without making a new upload. @Nullsleep: Sadly I can't sing and I don't know the notes used for the vocals. @White Circuit: I upload music to 4 different sites and just copy n paste the description from site to site. I just forgot to remove the (c) stuff. :)

  • AlexLuthor : The bass and/or backing synth is also a little off in places but hey, the 80s songs were like that too sometimes (the "forever young" synth solo for example) and it just made them more charming. This is damn good, definitely does the original justice!

  • Nullsleep : Great choice of song to cover, nice job too. My only complaint is that I wish you would have included vocals, or at least the vocals played as a melody line.
