Hot Head Bop - Sega Style

Uploaded by benanderson89 on October 16th 2008, 11:27 AM

'Hot Head Bop' (the lava level) from Donkey Kong 2 for the SNES redone Sega Mega Drive style (Genesis in USA) with VSTi that emulate the 2 sound chips inside the console. 'VOPM' for the FM Synthesis and 'The Magical 8-bit Plugin' for the PSG. I was originally going to do this with my Yamaha DX9, but any DX owners out there will know that the DX synthesizers are far from user friendly (I just got pissed off with it :P ) I stayed within the 6 monophonic channel limit of the YM chip (the drums and the echo effects count as used channels) and the 4 channels of the TI PSG chip (3-tone, 1-noise). All patches programmed by me from scratch

  • kidThunder : excellent track! kinda reminds me of the mystic cave zone from sonic 2 on the sega genesis!

  • AlexLuthor : That's awesome, perhaps even better than the original as I don't remember it. Bassline and drums make it sound a bit like the mystic cave zone tune in Sonic 2, which is a nice touch.

  • benanderson89 : Glad ya like it. Yeah it is a pretty awesome sound track. I was originally going to do the mine level, but it had way to much percussion and a 4op FM synth can't do everything. I might do disco train or stickerbrush symphony next.

  • Locusust : This is amazing! nice work. For some reason it reminds me of a fighting game i used to have on sega megadrive

  • Stevens : Awesome - the coolest soundchips ever versus the most overlooked gem of a soundtrack (Disco Train anyone?) done really well, excellent!
