Coconut Island (48 Challenge)

I've been challenged by Jredd. Here is the forum post : "I want you to make 8 bit salsa music because chips go good with salsa! :-P You must sample a house hold pet (if you do not have one just find an animal noise off the internet and incorperate it into your song somehow.)". First of all, thank you for the challenge, it's my first time. But I know that I'm not good at this kind of thing :) Then, I don't even know what is salsa. Salsa ? Bossa Nova ? Anyway, I gave a try. The choice of the machine was an evidence for several reasons : - I'm not familiar with the Game Boy. It's a long time since I made my last track on this little thing. I wanted to go back on LSDJ. - I had in mind the "8bit Girl of Ipanema" of the april's fool - And I saw that there is some animals samples in LSDJ, and some latinos drum samples... hehe ! I made this as the music of a little game like Mario or Adventure Island, in which you have an exotic level with palm trees, and drunken monkeys (rhum of course) launching heavy coconuts :) Welcome on Coconut Island ! Only 4h challenge actually, but I can't spend more than a few hours on a single track, and I knew that I would not have any better stuff at the end.

  • Jredd : Nice job man! Sounds good to me :D. Actually my song took me about 3 or 4 hours as well. I don't know exactly how long it took though because part of the time was spent recording samples to put into mod plug, then I had to stop and think "Now what am I going to do with these :). Your welcome for the challenge. I tried to make it interesting and a bit of fun without being overly complicated.

  • µB : Haha, that indeed lines up neatly with Trash80's Girl from Ipanema, no small thanks to the woof. I'm not terribly familiar with Salsa myself, but to me this sounds pretty Salsa-y. Good work :)
