Strobelight Sequencers - FL (HELP PLZ)

Uploaded by The JelliFysh on January 8th 2009, 01:57 PM

Listen all the way through please! I have been working on this in FL studio, all the melody instruments are the 8Bit Plugin and the drums are obviously just some of the drums available on FruityLoops. Bass is made up of two Square waves, one at 25%. There is a Square wave lead and a Triangle backing melody. The arpeggio is a Square wave too which I had to make arpeggiate by writing the notes of the arpeggio in manually >.< Please comment freely but constructively, yes this is only a teaser and try to listen all the way through cause it gets pretty damn groovy at the end! • GrooveBox : dear me a lot of angry purist game boy ppls I thought it was alright follows a similar style to other tracks on this site so what’s the big deal what its made on? If everything sounds the same there will never be any improvements or originality in what’s made =)

  • Nintend0nt : FUCK THA HATAZ but in all seriousness this is a bit messy, but its not bad, i could actually get into the melody at the beginning, more variation :) good try. :)

  • eric. : its good. too busy tho. use polyrythms, too many notes to follow. use different rythms so each part contrasts. i like it.

  • Jonnyriddle : i didn't think it was all that bad... it was danceable at least... could still use some work though

  • The JelliFysh : I appreciate the comments and if you guys really aren't happy with it I'll delete it.. I know it's not pure 8bit but I've been using LSDj mostly and I just wanted to try something new. Ok it's not amazing and no this is not FL Collective but it also isn't DMG collevtive and a lot of songs on this site have drum backings that aren't 8bit. I was experimenting with an unknown and wanted to hear what you think, I can try and transfer this to a DMG and improve on it if you want but all I was doing was having a play around. Tbh there are mixed feelings in the comments, some people hate the clap some people like the clap some people hate the melodies some people like them melodies it's all a matter of opinion and if you have one then please express it but still be considerate? I guess this piece is a bit slapdash but it was made fairly quickly and I didn't know whether to carry on with it so I uploaded it just to see what people think.

  • Chip Chip Chip : I really like them tunes. // But indeed rather pure DMG

  • J. Arthur Keenes : This really isn't as bad as its cracked up to be, I actually thought the melodies were kind of interesting, a little too busy though. I think the drums are the only terrible part of this, very boring FL presets that really don't mesh with the instruments at all.

  • Kyotosapian : "absolute purism"; It's not being a puritan, it's following what the site is designed for. I'd hardly call it purist by following guidelines to the basic level.

  • argent s : i don't know what you guys are saying, i think that the song could be a bit better but it's still not bad. the only bit that doesn't sound that 8bit to me is the drums, which i honestly don't think is a big deal. absolute purism in anything is ridiculous, there should be a bit of leeway for ventures into other styles.

  • Kyotosapian : Pokemon posers: It's not about recording in 32 or 8bit, It's about producing in 8bit surroundings; this is why things like FL Studio are shunned on the 8bitcollective - It's music supposed to be designed by an old game hardware soundchip. As far as constructive criticism is concerned, similar to what Shonen said; I like the clap samples and the snare a lot, but bear in mind what site you are uploading this to.

  • Shonentune : Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. Browse the site a little bit, tell me what you notice. Pay specific attention to what people are using to make their music.

  • pokemon posers : shonen: my songs are in 32 bit, so should this site delete my songs. because i recorded one of my songs in 8bit one time, and it sounded like crackling noise.

  • velo : Terrible. Absolutely, terrible. The arps sound terribly off, the lead sounds terribly off, even the drums don't go to a certain beat. It sounds like you just jammed a bunch of notes together and put a lame drum loop over it. Also, that snare was nice, but the clap overpowered it.

  • Shonentune : Seconded. Quick tip as well. This is "8bitcollective", not "FLcollective". If it's not chip, take it outside.
