Lazer Time! (feat J Arthur Keenes)

Uploaded by Sievert on January 3rd 2010, 12:16 PM

a ska famitracker song I was working on a long time ago that J Arthur added some wicked instruments over. Kind of forgot about it and found it again the other day so I decided to upload it. Enjoy!

  • Greenleo : What a fucking amazing song. It never gets old.

  • notagrape : Um, I don't really know how to start this, but I've been a fan of 8bc for a long time now (even though I never used the account I made until now). I really enjoy 8 bit music, but I don't have the musical talent to make any myself. Anyway, I want to make a semi-monthly news series about online music portals and other slightly nerdy things, and I realized that Lazer Time! would be both a great theme song and title for the show. I want to start working on it right away, but not without your permission to use this song (I'll make you the first featured artist on the show if you let me). (PS it's a great song, I didn't like the horns at first but they really add to the whole thing, it's really catchy (hence my interest) and very unique at the same time)

  • Sugoi : Ahhhh, this song is fucking /brilliant/. I wish I could push 'like' again. And goddammit, I'm still banging my head against the wall for being so terrible with names-- I saw your set at datapop and didn't realize it was you till I'd gotten home. The whole time I was wondering why your music sounded so familiar! Ah, but alas, that just means... you need to come back to Austin! (And, by the way, your set was amazing, as were the cookies.)

  • ZombiesWatchingTV : this is amazing i would press "like it" but it would ruin the 69

  • ZaxCG2 : THIS IS AWESOME. 8-Bit Ska FOREVER.
    on January 16th 2010, 08:42 AM
  • themediashow : I actually kind of like the gross-sounding trumpet. Something about the distortion/peaking or whatever it is sort of feels like the hairy noise-waves in 8bit. So I thought it worked. Fun tune, guys.
    on January 13th 2010, 07:49 PM
  • Batmanifestdestiny : very good! I even waited for my slow internet (Qwest's "1.5 mbps" plan is more like 54.9 kbps T_T) to load it all!
    on January 13th 2010, 02:58 PM
  • A, B, Up, Start! : @yuh; drums on famitracker are usually wicked quiet and tend to get drowned out.
    on January 13th 2010, 07:29 AM
  • Izgul : This isn't really my cup of tea, but kind of..... Catchy?
    on January 13th 2010, 07:11 AM
  • yuh : needs louder drums. awesome tho really good

  • Emergency Hammer : Chip ska? I'm not sure how this exists. I'm quite confused. Not bad confused, but confused none the less. That being said, it certainly was well executed.

  • TRASHAPPY! : hahaha I really enjoyed this! I don't think the horn sounded terrible, and I definitely really liked its inclusion. Really nice and fresh, nice one.

  • ant1 : Triangle bass is the coolest thing you'll ever hear, fact.
    on January 10th 2010, 12:20 PM
  • villewannabe : WHAT THE FUCK AM I HEARING? CHIP-SKA!?!+1+?!?1! THIS_IS_AWESOMATIC. The last part with everything on it is grAET! There's only one problem: triangle wave bass = not cool, only YMCK can make it sound good.
    on January 10th 2010, 12:14 PM
  • OakBeard : this has over 50 plays on my ipod already. :)
    on January 9th 2010, 03:43 PM
  • Greenleo : I disagree. This seems more like an authentic ska tune and the chiptune elements are the novelty here.
    on January 8th 2010, 11:08 AM
  • ChristopherWiltsie : It doesn't sound that bad and I realize that you probably aren't a horn player. I wasn't trying to irritate sievert or be a jerk, I was just trying to give him some feedback. He took it better than most everybody else anyways so that is all that matters since he made it. I just thought the horn was a novelty and it kind of took away from the song(for me), not that it was terribly bad but I felt they could have gone in different directions with the song. I respect Keenes and sievert as musicians, and keenes knows that from my comments on his other songs, I just had to be honest with how I felt.

  • Faking Amnesia : Haha that was awesome.
    on January 4th 2010, 06:01 PM
  • axolotl : Horns could be turned down a bit? They sound good at the end, but not at the beginning/middle; imo, of course.
    on January 4th 2010, 05:03 PM
  • Reteris : LOL@ChristopherWiltsie getting trolled. But to be honest, his original comment... I sort of understand that actually, preference really...

  • freezedream : haha! awesomeness :D
    on January 4th 2010, 04:44 PM
  • retroboytimo : hahaha I really laughed about christopher, so he's basically saying the horn is not of musical value ahahahahahahaah. I can't stop thinking about it and laughing. it wasn't a bad mix at all and the whole song was a pleasure to listen to.
    on January 4th 2010, 01:23 PM
  • mufasa : sick as fuck!!! absolutely lovin it guys! :P fuck it man tht horns soundin filthy n i likeee it ;)
    on January 4th 2010, 01:11 PM
  • J. Arthur Keenes : Yeah, I agree with you folks on the horn sound (not a trumpet, some bizarre horn I have with one rotary valve and one piston valve), it's mostly due to the garbage microphone I used and my poor mixing (and I'm not a very good horn player haha). I don't think it sounds THAT bad though.
    on January 4th 2010, 12:42 PM
  • ChristopherWiltsie : yeah that would be really cool. My email is ChristopherWiltsie@yahoo.com

  • hpizzle : neat-o
    on January 4th 2010, 08:01 AM
  • ChristopherWiltsie : part of it might be that I don't really like ska. I do like it more on my second listen though.
    on January 4th 2010, 07:52 AM
  • ChristopherWiltsie : yeah. I think they like that it has horns but the horns aren't especially great, etc. The actual 8-bit part of the song is really cool though.
    on January 4th 2010, 07:50 AM
  • Sievert : @christopher: so what you're saying is, the production is nice but you don't understand the overall hype surrounding the track in general?
    on January 4th 2010, 07:45 AM
  • ChristopherWiltsie : I kind of think lots of people like this song for reasons other than the actual musicality of the piece.
    on January 4th 2010, 06:55 AM
  • Bleepshit : Happy track! Good job to you two! :D

  • AndyExpandy : haha i think the trumpet is great! this song is really fun man make some more of it!
    on January 3rd 2010, 05:38 PM
  • Nestrogen : Cool track.. I am not sure how "ska" incorporates distorted guitars and/or fast paced pieces... traditionally.. but, still a pretty fun listen. More like "4th-wave...something...digital..ska...something..punk...something"
    on January 3rd 2010, 05:33 PM

  • ant1 : Well, maybe it's not a trumpet, but what I meant was: it's whatever it sounds like, it's not coming from famitracker.
    on January 3rd 2010, 02:59 PM
  • ant1 : Simple Super Heros: the drums are DPCM... the trumpet is just a trumpet.
    on January 3rd 2010, 02:58 PM
  • Simple Super Heros : unique sound, very neet! Hey I'm using FamiTracker too, and how did you get those new sounds (trumpet drums ect...) Because the defalt sounds they provide you get boring?
