Out There (GB ver)

Uploaded by RushJet1 on August 6th 2009, 12:52 AM

This is like a test song I guess, trying to iron out how XPMCK works and find ways around its current issues. This took about 4 hours to transcribe from MCK/NES MML to XPMCK(GB) due to differences in the platforms, implementations in Noise, and some very strange bugs. Oh well, enjoy!

  • RushJet1 : squares are identical for the most part with a few differences. 1) Instead of starting at A-1 they start at C-2, and i don't know how high they go but it's similar to the NES, 2) noise has 47 different discrete pitches it can hit (as opposed to the NES's 16) but it sounds MUCH more tinny thanks to the fact that it repeats the sample much faster, 3) the second square can't do pitch envelopes, 4) wave channel is like a more tinny N106 with only four volume steps and 32 sample bytes, but it can store a LOT more samples than N106, and it can play 8-bit (or is it 4-bit??) samples, 5) oh yeah, stereo

  • anewuser : :D Great work recompiling the tune for GB (albeit I dunno how much tweaking went into this to make it compile and sound close as the original). I like the drum work although I prefer the original, too. How limiting was working and/or fixing the noise channel notes? Or what is it capable of? No 16 volume levels like the nes apu? I guess the squares are pretty much the same except that 3-4 octaves shorter than on the nes.

  • RushJet1 : revised this a bunch, 4x86.com/out_there_gb.mp3 has drums that are a lot more faithful to the original (actually construction-wise they're a lot further away than this song was originally, but there's some fun with the differences with gameboy VS NES :D). also the XPMCK guy (mic_) fixed a glaring problem with noise & volume macros so that helps a lot.

  • RushJet1 : the drums were hard to make sound OK on this version, i like the original drums a LOT more myself.

  • LxN : as someone who has listened to the original version of this song alot recently, I really love how this sounds except for the drums. I think the gameboy gives the song a cooler, mellower sound but I like the more hard hitting drums. I like this drum sound, just not on this song (if that makes sense?). But I have to agree with Reteris, great song nevertheless!
