Winds of Old, Clouds of Gold (Mario Paint samples)

Uploaded by Prizmatic Spray on August 30th 2009, 03:07 PM

As Wizwars told me when I showed it to him a while back, "Ok, I'm going to be totally honest. When I first read 'all Mario Paint sounds,' I kind of groaned out loud. Not out of a lack of confidence in your musical ability, but just because I was kind of expecting a song sequenced in Mario Paint." Well thank our lucky stars it's not that. 6 tracks in Renoise, no effects, originally submitted for a comp that invited multiple tracks from artists but has now been pared down to one each. This track hit the cutting room floor. All Mario Paint samples that I downloaded a long time ago (possibly from a ShawnPhase upload?). Enjoy, friends!

  • AlexLuthor : Well you obviously put some effort into this and I like that. Consider me touched lol.

  • Prizmatic Spray : And I should clarify what I mean when I say "combat loneliness." I mean that the mere act of making a piece of art or doing anything creative makes me feel in tune with the universe in general in a way that works toward decreasing my overall sense of alienation.

  • Prizmatic Spray : I guess it could be? jvincion seemed more stoked on the more "traditional Prizmatic Spray" song ("Desert Dilemma") I submitted, and I when I think about it I guess it'll be good to have that one on there because to be completely transparent, I do of course hope that its inclusion on the comp will be able to generate any interest whatsoever from anyone anywhere in my pending album (which "Desert Dilemma" is on, and which I plan/hope to generate at least a couple handfuls of physical copies of). The album is almost done, and I was hoping to release it after people get their ears full of the comp. Maybe that sounds stupid but I just put so much time and emotion into the album that I want there to be at least a tiny chance that it can touch people outside the core group of 7 or 8 dudes who I know will check it out anyway (ShizzBros. + plus my friend Andrew). I don't care about "getting attention" because there can't be any illusions of grandeur in the chiptune community right now, but I guess all I'm saying is that I made the album for the same reason I do anything creative: to combat loneliness. Anti-loneliness is the chief thing I am trying to express with Prizmatic Spray, so it would be kind of strange and oddly hypocritical of me to say "I ONLY make this music for me." I'd keep going if no one ever gave me any feedback, of course, but I'd just be a liar if I said that it wouldn't be fulfilling to make even one other person in the world feel less lonely through this project. And that's the tl;dr/"why did I even start this rant? oh yeah..." story of why I think Desert Dilemma is probably the best choice for the comp. Maybe I'll make this song a bonus track on the album or something.

  • Wizwars : I love this song. I think out of the three you sent me for that comp it was easily my favorite, sad that it didn't make it on there, definitely a shame.

  • Prizmatic Spray : So little-scale's track is pretty cool! I think I'll go listen to it again right now.
