Ingest the Geode

Uploaded by Prizmatic Spray on December 16th 2008, 11:30 PM

Ingest the Geode. Do not fear. It is here to help you. The path is winding and night falls soon. ---- My usual recipe: Renoise, NES samples (except the drums), no effects.

  • Disasterpeace : This song is crazy. I thought it toned itself down a little bit for the ending, but there's a lot of dope material especially in the middle of the piece towards the end. Nestrogen is right, some pretty clever transitions in here as well.

  • Prizmatic Spray : Hell yeah, thanks dudes! Within the next couple of months I should be releasing an official album that will have remastered versions of this and many of my other tracks (that have disappeared and reappeared variously on 8BC over the last year and a half or so).

  • DEADBEATBLAST : the fact that this tune is all over the place with the notes dosen't matter, some how the scattered parts sound good anyway... even when it's not in tune at all.

  • Disco Rehab : I really like the sounds you got going on in here!

  • Prizmatic Spray : Molesoul: I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I understand what you mean about having everything all up front all at once. My music background is in big, dumb, loud rock, so I think that one of the same principles of clarity with guitars and drums also applies to chiptunes, and it involves just being aware of the different frequencies of each instrument. If both lead channels were the same duty-cycle waveform, this type of song would probably sound lot more garbagey.

  • Zan-zan-zawa-veia : this is good =) i usually try to avoid the moments where all the channels sound exactly as loud and as busy as each other but you've found a way of making that sound OK instead

  • Prizmatic Spray : I understand where you're coming from. Perhaps if you listen to my first song, "Final Powers," you could understand why I chose to go with analog drum samples. The thing is, I like to get really busy with the drums, including occasional high-speed bursts. If I ever figure out a way to be interesting as a live act then I'll probably write some songs that just have straightforward, driving drums with basically the same rhythm throughout, but that hasn't happened yet. I have found that getting too busy with actual NES drums results in a kind of harsh, typewriter-like sound from the snare. I am still pretty happy overall about the composition of "Final Powers" (for a first song, anyway), but I will probably rework it sometime because that typewriter snare really grates on me. When I decided to go with a traditional, non-chip snare sound, though, it made the Konami drums sound extremely wimpy. All I did to beef it up, though, was combine the Konami kick sample with a C64 kick sample, because I really wanted to keep the proper computer music spirit in tact as much as possible. Anyway.

  • Fighter X : Shredding! I may never personally like these type of drum samples in chip-sounding music but this is still a great song. Good God.
