Before the Empire (I, II and III) 48hr Challenge

Uploaded by Note! on January 10th 2009, 09:24 AM

A 48-hour Challenge told in 3 parts (loosely based on a science fiction short-story retold in brief by little-scale)

Part I: Pax Cephalopoda - hundreds of millions of years of joy-filled and carefree squidiness.

Interlude: Genetentical Engineering - the humans take hold and, through science(!), turn squid into Cephalonaut.

Part II: Top Squid - the Cephalonauts spend hundreds of years blasting through space; combing the far reaches for the natural resources so desperately needed by their human masters.

Part III: March of the Mollusc's Foot - the Cephalonauts realize they hold the future of the planet Earth and the human race in the persistence of their deliveries. They leave Earth behind to dry up, they swell in numbers and take the universe by terrible, inky storm.

Be sure to listen to the whole track as there is a story to be told! Thanks to the Drunken Hokkaido Chamber Choir for their help on "March of the Mollusc's Foot".

 • Note! : @CCIVORY: Glad you dug it. It is all one LSDJ file with the exception of a touch of filter play at the very beginning, a little bit of panned Atari Punk Console during the Interlude and the choir, of course: )

 • Note! : Thanks! @NegaPixel: I have to admit I'm a fan of Sufjan's Illinois and Seven Swans - didn't expect his influence to come through in chip form though :) @disasterpeace: If I had the time, I would have loved to have popped out some animated sprites for this but 48 hrs just wasn't enough. Still, I wish I could have shared with you guys the shit that was going through my head while making this. Maybe in the future.
