Norrin_Radd - Metropolis

Wow, has it been 2 years all ready?! This song was created in 2007 in NSF format using FamiTracker. There was a brief time in 2007 when I really tried to figure out FamiTracker as a possible replacement for MODPlug, but a few minor, but extremely important features are still just not as functional (Highlighting, copy and paste multiple columns, note slides, being able to see what note I am entering before moving off it[I bet there is a fix for this one]). I really hope that one day it controls exactly like MODPlug and I can REALLY start to make some sick NES chiptunes. In any case, as a work around to the DPCM channel only allowing one sample at a time, I created 3 samples: Kick, Snare and Kick + Snare. This way I could try and do that Andrew WK Four on the Flour drum beat. Unfortunately, my own obsessive urges forced me out of a structured rhythm track once again, and I couldn't help but start adding all sorts of zany fills. Fortunately, this sort of thing is not very common in NSFs, so at least it's kind of different. This is the first time I have shared one of my NSFs with the internet, so I hope you enjoy ^_^

  • anewuser : NR, I strongly suggest you to check 2009 builds of famitracker. Not only would you be helping detect/highlight bugs from EXTREME usage, but you witness famitracker is a much different music composition tool from previous years (even used to compose music for PS2 games haha) It's now more feature rich given requests of many experienced musicians from the impulse tracker / modplug / and milkytracker communities, but the usage of ALL have help made it more stable (specially during compos and ohcs XD) Also, newer additions such as VRC6 would allow a new and improved sound for all musicians and it'd help transition from your "regular" 6-9 channels (I pulled those numbers out of my ass) modules (thought your "NES modules" are f'n great on their own right) to "more original" NSF compositions. My n00b 2 cents. PD: how the fuck do I have more nsfs from you? hahahahah, have a nice day, man :) PD2: thanks for the introduction into "tech metal" and spiral architect they are phenomenal.

  • Random : Great tune! And I think none of the things you mention with famitracker are still relevant... copy/paste multiple columns and pitch slides work, and the that issue about not seeing the note before moving off it, I've never experienced...

  • vitrics : Yea, I thought this one was really good as well. I didn't think it was as badly structured as you made out either. And I ALWAYS love your ott-zany fills. Super stuff.

  • Jredd : Very expertly crafted. I enjoyed this one very much. I just started using famitracker myself a few months ago. Your DPCM samples sound quite nice, and your progressions are unique. I've heard something about sm3 to nsf which you might be able to do with mod plug, but I can't say I know enough about the program to say how good it works or if it even does. Still, you may want to look into it. Awesome work, keep em coming man! :)
