MINE IS TWICE BIGGER! ;) TWO beepers!

Uploaded by MISTER BEEP on May 28th 2009, 06:26 AM

Hi there. :) This 1-bit chiptune has been made on *two* ZX Spectrums 48K (Timex) playing simultanously. :)
It gave me 6 channels of sound (4 channels of tones and 2 channels of drums). It's totally first test of such an idea so I wasn't experiment with stereo this time (it would be possible but more difficult to mix both Spectrums).
Sometimes I used additional channels to make more "wide/deep" 1-bit sound (all channels plays different notes) but sometimes I used them to achieve effects of reverb/delay - then you can hear 2 tones and drums but with additional effects and evnvelopes, as you can notice.
Also I can state that making one half of a chiptune and THEN another half - is a pain in the ass. ;)
This is kind of a new approach to ZX48K music, I hope you like the experiment. :)
PS: Actually it's possible to get such an effect on one Spectrum - in Tim Follin's music engine - but there is no editor for it so I had to use this funny way. :)

 • Shiru : This track isn't impressed me too much at first, because indeed there was Tim Follin's engine which can do same on single beeper, though with more noise. However, I liked that clean sound, and composition is good too, and after I've listened this track few times I've also remembered how unfriendly Orfeus and other beeper sequencers are. So, now I'm sure it's great work. I'd wish to hear experiments with even more beepers from you. How about full beeper orchestra?

 • Switch Off, Goodbye. : Hey Mister Beep! I've been a fan of your 1-Bit sound since I first heard you through Myspace. This 6 channel experiment turned out very well for you, I imagine you could go far places with your sound, perfecting- and building by one bit at a time. Great work!

 • MISTER BEEP : Many thanks, guys. It was a hard work. And for µB - it wasn't even tracking! :) Before I learnt how to use "Orfeus" I had instantly to use...... musical NOTES! :) For my old age! :) Ah! Anyway. It was hard. As for the Dreamcastle, I must admit we think in the same way. :) I had identical thoughts about the "second set of slow chords" however making music for two computers is annoying: I discovered the problem too late: only after all the recordings/mixing, so it was too much for me to repeat all the procedure again. Anyway I agree with you totally. :) All: thanks once again. :)

 • µB : God, that really must have been a pain to track. And I agree, the outcome was worth it.

 • Dreamcastle : Worth the programming, I could see on the second set of slow chords some effects in between followed by more intense percussion for variation.
