Kid Icaris & Microchip Lsdj & Renoise Chipbreak Collab

Uploaded by Kid Icaris on May 27th 2009, 12:18 PM

Microchip and I decided to have a go at a collab. I sent him an old melody which he modifyed and put onto lsdj. Then i added breaks and effects on renoise :) this is the crazy outcome hope you enjoy!

  • swampyboy : i just read thru the comments on this and 5 hits from different breaks isnt really enough to make breakcore. when i make breakcore i need 20 hits at the very least with automation over the top. it is rare that i make a song with less than 60 hits on standby. i would be happy to send you some breaks if you would like

  • Kid Icaris : yeh microchips working on the dark nano glitchy bassy track atm i think n then ill add some darker breaks. kinda IDM glitchy style im thinking. and ill add ur msn epichunt!

  • dickbreasts : nice amen (even with the other drum hits, it's not much more than a good amen). i'm not a fan of happy (i tried to find a more sophisticated word for happy but i failed) chiptune (dmgs are really suited for harsher, darker sounds and melodies in my opinion) so i'm curious about this "dark nanocore." chiptune could do with a bit more dark funk.

  • epichunt : also im automatically invited to any of your house parties. cant wait till you move here, gimme some mail when you are or msn me....mrpaulsnow(a)yours.com

  • epichunt : i heard this before the breaks from microchip...sounds amazing now. liked.
    on May 28th 2009, 06:28 PM
  • Koze : This made me really happy. I fucking loved it. I think if it were slower it would defeat the purpose. The only thing I did not like was the ending. Everything was progressing nicely and then you get to that dud of an ending. It was a bit anti-climatic and seemed a bit abrupt.
    on May 28th 2009, 06:21 PM
  • TRASHAPPY! : Crazy track, but I think it's a bit too long, even with the madness I found myself getting a bit bored by the end... Just my opinion though, I really like the majority of it! :)

    on May 28th 2009, 06:58 AM

  • Kid Icaris : yee i think me n microchip are gonan make some dark nanocore. less melodic more bass and crazy breaks using nanoloop and renoise
    on May 28th 2009, 04:32 AM
  • Jellica : i wanna hear darker chipbreak please :)
    on May 28th 2009, 04:24 AM
  • Jellica : why does chipbreak have to be nauseatingly melodic? the melodies always seem so damn random with nothing coherent about them. What Combatdave says is spot on.
    on May 28th 2009, 04:23 AM
  • Kid Icaris : yeh i think me n microchip will do a few more but not as crazyyy

  • combatdave : I just listened again, and I still think theres too much going on. Don't get me wrong - I like breakcore and stuff like that, and I think the breaks in this are pretty awesome - just the melody is all over the place. There needs to be more space between the notes - having two contradictory melodies both going at the same time with no sort of connection between the two, both using the same waveform and both with a really really long decay... it just sounds messy. Although, that is mostly a criticism of the intro. After that, I think the melody becomes kind of chaotic and relies too much on the bassline to tie it together, but the bassline is too dull (no rhythm to it) and, well... not bassy enough! It just doesn't seem to work. One thing you could try is taking both melodies, and then squash them both onto the same channel - this will force you to skip notes which are not needed, then, cut some more notes out. This would not only help your melody become more focused, but give you a whole extra channel for some tasty tasty arps, or some gritty bass, or some... well, whatever.

  • microchip : First time I've heard this properly :P Your parts are actually too awesome, the bits I did sound lame in comparison ;)

  • Onyxmizer : yay amen. gets the job done! love the wacky melody, but could be a little more crazy, but it's really wacky to begin with. (just my tastes though). solid breaks through.

  • steal4ram : good work like it !!

  • Pet Komodo : holy crap this is great
    on May 27th 2009, 01:57 PM
  • Kid Icaris : i did mix my drums ;) i had about 5 individual hits from differnt breaks
    on May 27th 2009, 01:52 PM
  • Pompei : I personally like your dubstep songs better than your breakcore songs. / In the words of you "thats just amen man, mix your drums." ;)
    on May 27th 2009, 01:31 PM
  • Kid Icaris : yeh i origionally made chipbreak but i stopped to make dub and this was kinda giving me the chance to carry on what i havent done in ages and i kinda went all out and just went crazy on the drums but i like the kinda mental feel it has.
    on May 27th 2009, 01:27 PM
  • Jredd : That was a fun listen. It was a bit nuts, but in a good way. I like your dub step stuff too, but it's always good to see artists branching out. Collaborations are fun learning experiences. This was interesting :).
    on May 27th 2009, 01:19 PM
  • mechlo : I like the pacing of the song. The snare rolls seem to add a little too much with the melody at that speed. Maybe construct the melody of longer held notes with the break beat. That should clean it up without losing any of the edge.
    on May 27th 2009, 01:11 PM
  • Powder Puff Boy : ya i know i was being a dick..haha..but i told my mom to take a listen and she said it was perfect how it was..so i thought it didnt deserve any criticism cause moms are always right.. =)
    on May 27th 2009, 01:11 PM
  • Odori : okay then powder puff boy. i was handing out some constructive criticism, it just seemed too 'layered' if it was slower it probably wouldn't be so confusing. the melody itself is quite catchy and the drums are well laid out.
    on May 27th 2009, 01:03 PM
  • villewannabe : me likey! :) that's pretty much all to say about this.

  • Powder Puff Boy : to 1-800-gameboy...my previous comment was being produced before your comment.. =)
    on May 27th 2009, 12:48 PM
  • Powder Puff Boy : fuckin sick.. its only all over the place for ppl who have slow brains and no dicks.. any changes suggested below would make this song a bit boring..its tightpussy how it is sam..
    on May 27th 2009, 12:47 PM
  • The Sixteenth Hour : sounds good. wished it was more dubstep rather than breakcore
    on May 27th 2009, 12:46 PM
  • combatdave : I think Odori meant the melody/thing... it really is all over the place and doesn't make much sense. Kill the squarewave melody which comes in right from the start (leave in the bass and the other melody) and it would be greatly improved, methinks.
    on May 27th 2009, 12:40 PM
  • Kid Icaris : welcome to breakcore Odori
    on May 27th 2009, 12:24 PM
  • Odori : just seems a little all over the place, like too many things are happening too fast.
    on May 27th 2009, 12:23 PM
  • Bunnymajs : Indeed quite crazy :D haha, but i do have to say i enjoyed it.. well.. it feels kinda strange to have a kinda strange happy melody to some breaks.. but strangely enough, in a strange way.. it kinda fits :D overused the word strange.. but wth..!
