A Single Ray of Light

Uploaded by Disasterpeace on May 28th 2009, 11:56 PM

For generations, there lasted a darkness. A darkness each of us hoped would pass. As we watched and waited, life around us began to wither. And as the darkness grew more dense, we soon realized that the single ray of light we had hoped for would never come. We had been clenching our fists around a fleeting notion only to find that it had escaped our grasp. For ages, we slumbered waiting in the cold. Choking on the air in our own lungs. We were upon our final hours when he appeared to shine a light onto our path. A path we might follow into eternity.

More info here.

  • nailnine : Very Blade Runner. Coolness you never dissapoint!

  • Disasterpeace : @Typhoon_Cutter: Check Disasterpeace.com for more chiptunes, and I have some higher fidelity videogame stuff on RichVreeland.com.

  • Typhoon_Cutter : All your music is beautiful! Do you have a collection of chiptune stuff available for download, so I don't have to DL each of your songs individually? Also, anywhere I could hear some of your non-chip music? I saw that you're a Berklee music major, and I'm wondering what other instruments you've composed with.

  • Disasterpeace : @cTrix: Yep, listening to this in hindsight I think the pitch modulation actually might sound better if it was 1/4 instead of a triplet sync.

  • cTrix : Wikid slow modulation on the lead line. (and yeah PDF format, it's a whole tone scale for a few notes there...)

  • JJ : That lead melody that starts at 00:33 kills me everytime (its that good), not only that, but when it hits multiple voices at 1:25 it becomes absolute dynamite. The whole song builds up so beautifully, it deserves some kind of award.

  • Disasterpeace : @ PDF Format: Made it in Reason! And yep I believe those runs in the B section are whole tone scales... never thought about that before though, haha

  • PDF format : i know this is irrelevant to how amazing this nice track is, but, what did you make this in? i like the part with the whole tone scale.. i think its a whole tone scale.

  • Random : Disasterpeace: Yes, the drums add a lot to that feeling I get. But also the timbre of the lead, the vibrato (and some tremolo?) gives it a kind of organic feel, and the melody itself. Just my connotations, don't know why :)

  • Disasterpeace : @pokemon posers: Yep! It's a game we've been working on for a bit, hopefully will be done by the end of the year and will come out on PC and XBox Live Community Games :)

  • Pompei : Isn't this for a game coming this summer? :O I remember watching a video with this on your myspace page.

  • Disasterpeace : @Random: Interesting! Perhaps the snare work makes you think of that?

  • Random : I love this tune, Disasterpeace. I love the structure and sense of endlessness, with the fade in and out... I don't get any sci-fi feel though, quite the opposite. Ancient battlefields, soldiers facing up, standing on liknes, thinking of the previous lives.

  • L-tron : your music is awesome man! Love this one...such a great feel

  • sserrac : Beautiful, you used this on the High Strangeness trailer right? Your music will always send a chill down my spine!
    on May 29th 2009, 04:00 AM
  • Zan-zan-zawa-veia : the saw wavy synth brassy sound ties the whole song together, what an inspired choice
    on May 29th 2009, 03:13 AM
  • Norrin_Radd : Another triumph man. Disasterpiece can do no wrong! Your description, along with the song itself was actually an extremely charming touch. Epic man.

  • µB : I see... parallax scrolling landscapes in 16:9 with captions in the black. Defenitly has that intro-feel, and strangely reminded me of the Super Metroid soundtrack at times. C'est si bon!
    on May 29th 2009, 01:44 AM
  • Jredd : It reminds me of the intro sequence to some kind of sci-fi cult classic late 70's animated film, that was for some reason made into a huge RPG video game that was later ported to the GBA which turned out to be one of the last great games for the system before it's more powerful successor the DS came out. In other words, it's awesome.
