  • lamb : @4mat: indeed. when using external compressor then it somehow always did crunch extra few bytes more when patterns were written widely and not like row-in-a-row. i just thought you didn't use it, since i have ripped an uncompressed file from source coding. cheers! :)

  • 4mat : lamb: The track's optimized for size AFTER compression, not before. The pattern data was smaller but I had to take my fixes out because the compressor worked better without them. Because of the way XM pattern data is stored it's actually easier for the compressor to work with more space. I wrote a packer to extract XM channels as continous streams (like midi) which takes a couple more k off, but I don't think we'll get to use it now.

  • lamb : @4mat: not at all. pattern optimization > sample resampling. you may refer to some of my works to learn more about the matter. regards! :)

  • 4mat : Lamb: I don't get what you mean by "non-optimized samples", the track is as small as it can get without changing the timbre.

  • lamb : dirty sounds, pure lo-fi with non optimized samples. yes, this is what i do like sometimes in a good setting like this one! (i have also spent some time to rip the original file from the intro... successfully! :)

  • 4mat : syphilissauna: Thanks. Yeah I'd like to add vocals but no space in 64kb demo limit. I wouldn't mind doing some more 'chip hop' tracks in the future so finding someone to MC on them would be good, I don't know anyone. joule: Thanks it's an XM module. 81kb, compresses down to 34kb in the demo. I agree with you and I was in two minds about uploading it here, but apart from the drums & scratching the rest is all chip wave instruments. I've just uploaded a video of the intro to YouTube. (look under username artofvideogame)

  • 4mat : Hmm my comment disappeared, must have been the web link to the intro I added. Anyway it's on pouet . Yes evilpaul did all the code & gfx, a pleasure to work with him again. We wanted it to sound like a mixtape with a different 'record' for each fx in the demo.
