noteNdo

During the winter of 2001 noteNdo was born. Having been inspired by my friend and colleagues Dawn and Mike Haletas' audio/visual work as Backbreakerneckbrace plus youthful memories of abstract and colourful system crashes while gaming, I began to investigate the possibilities lying hidden in my only computer at the time, my very first NES. During this time I also learned of the Nanoloop and LSDJ software for Gameboy and right away ordered v1.4 of LSDJ (which to this day is used for most of my tracking) and bought my very first Gameboy classic. Over the following years I began reverse engineering via trial and error to create usable glitch interfaces and recording as much visual output as possible. I also began searching for other people involved in the visual side of 'circuit bending' which turned up 3 people, Tim Drage in England, NEStune in Australia and Archangel Constantini in Mexico City. Not long after I began to contact people who might be interested in my work - this resulted in my first attempt at a gallery show which would've had my work shown alongside Corey Archangel's Super Mario Clouds which I believe was just making the contemporary art museum rounds. Though my work was rejected due to being 'too abstract', something I immediately found funny, being 'too abstract for NYC', I very soon after was featured in MACHINISTAs 8bit Cabaret exhibit in Glasgow, Scotland. From there my work has led me to many unique opportunites, most notably Bent Fest 2005 where I met Jeremiah Johnson, Mike Rosenthal and Joshua Davis. I contributed an installation of my prepared SEGA Genesis and was paired with Nullsleep as visual accompaniment to his, at the time, ROM based NES tunes.

  • Kris Keyser : yeah, u know what? this is badass. to hell with all the pics of people's studios and their "first pixel art!". maybe it's a lot all at once but to be honest, i wish that the images section featured more stuff made with 8-bit hardware and less stuff made by kids with pixelation filters in photoshop. you just gave the image section a dose of exactly what it needs. kudos to you, and BTW your scarf idea was genius.

  • noteNdo : L-tron, thank you very much. I had no idea this forum was geared toward gameboy gear shots - I imagine that people don't understand what they're looking at either. For what it's worth, I've been getting a real kick out of all this negativity. It's hilarious. Haters - these are still images that were created with a NES (yep, YOUR sweet, sweet precious) that has been modified to generate patterns from original game cartridges. These 11 were generated with Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (the original one where Tyson is actually in the game and really quite beatable). Non-Haters - Thank you for all your kind words and support!

  • noteNdo : big thanks to the positivity guys! wondering what's up though, looks like everything from the past 4 days is still on page one ... oh well, didn't intend to bump anyone.

  • noteNdo : My apologies to anyone that has been offended, confused or otherwise by uploading 11 images. I was unaware there was any sort of protocol or quota to uploads as I do not frequent this board. To answer questions so far, these are still images that were captured from an actual NES. These were uploaded to share with what seemed to be an online 8bit community but the caliber of responses here has proved differently.
