  • Jredd : You know? This isn't bad at all. Sure it's not the most upbeat peice but I enjoy what's hear. I would also say build it up a bit faster, and when you have a lead by itself you can copy it on another channel and put it a space or 2 ahead of the first track and lower the volume so that when things solo you get an echo effect and it gives it more emphasis. Overall though, I enjoy it. It sounds like a mix between a mega man intro, and perhaps some slower songs from solstice...except not quite as complex. Nice work though :).

  • Jredd : Pretty slick stuff. How did you get your kick to go all rapid fire like that? Was it using a re-trigger setting of some kind? Anyhow, this song has some pretty neat ideas. It takes a long time for the bass to change up, but it's nice when it does. I like the new types of melodies that come and go I just think it's a little repetitive at first and takes a while to build. If you took these ideas and switched between them more, as well as adding a stronger alternate section of completely different chords and things that this can jump to for a bridge from time to time this could really be cool. It's a nice little tune now, but with some extra parts and a little faster build it could be awesome. I hope that helps!

  • mathgrant : @2PLAYER: I composed this song for forest world's compilation of one-minute-long songs; I was junking around with a few things, but it really seemed like a minute-long tribute to my short film Game Over was the best idea I could manage (which isn't to say it was a bad idea -- just that it was the best idea I had for such a short song!). As "well thought out and well written" as it is, I can't picture myself expanding it any longer than 60 seconds -- but who knows? :) Thanks for the constructive and thought-provoking comment!

  • mathgrant : @Gsmith: It took six whole months to turn that riff at the start into something I was satisfied enough with to deem worthy of posting, so it's a relief to know that other people enjoyed this, too, and that maybe I was right in my judgment that this song was postable. :) I don't see your name on the list of people who "Like" this song, though, if that's what "like'd" was supposed to mean. I'm hoping you merely forgot or something! D:

  • mathgrant : @Zomvor: An attention span of 3 seconds? No tonal notes play for the first *10* seconds! Maybe I've just become attached after two years of on-and-off work, though, but I feel like those 10 seconds add to the song. The song (supposedly) represents a solemn depression, after all, one which has only very gradually given way to solace (which the last couple of minutes kind of represent -- although they really represent "Okay, I've had this song on my backlog for over a year -- how can I finally get the song to evolve in a different direction towards an ending?"). Then again, Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace" probably wouldn't capture the attention of someone with a three-second attention span, either, but that doesn't make it *bad*. :) Thanks for the comment, though, and hopefully, my next compositions will not only be just as solid, but also take fewer than 10 seconds for something interesting to happen!

  • mathgrant : You guys and your speed boats and your helicopters and your guns. I'll never be able to satisfy you with my old music that I updated by moving the Triangle melody to the Sawtooth channel so the Triangle channel never has to stop playing rapid-fire kicks. ;)
