Finagrin

Hey guys, basically i'm new to the whole chiptune seen, but i'm experimenting with lsdj and a dmg and it's heaps fun. I'm a Trombone/Cello/singer player from Australia, and currently i have an addiction for this kind of music. Since the tv has always told me to feed my addictions like a fat kid at KFC i've decided to try this stuff out for myself. Send us a post if your keen to give me some pointers. Cheers. Griff

  • themediashow : I see what you did there with that trailing-off triplet :D it just about drove me nuts because it sounds a little sloppy and hand-entered, but it's kind of neat, too. I swear I don't know why your stuff doesn't get more attention, I think you've got great ideas. I particularly like the octave-jumping arps you're using here.

  • themediashow : I absolutely love what you're doing way up at the top and in the very low beats which seem to be panned into my left ear. This one really grows, as compared to Kickin' It, which like I said I wanted to evolve. This one grows less in a melody direction and more in a scoring direction -- more instruments and layers come in, which works very well. Not that I should really be one to criticize on the evolving-melody front -- whenever I try writing music I can't get beyond about a 16-beat melody scrap at a time :P

  • themediashow : I'm definitely down with your style. I think I wanted to hear the melody evolve more. The arpy bits at the end were a great progression from the beginning, but somehow it wasn't quite evolution, does that make sense? The melody was so one-note that it really felt like it needed to go somewhere.

  • xGx : Lol dude what the heck :P I can so hear a cheesy saxophone synth going over this, get a solo on it :P Pretty nice little laid back piece though ^-^ P.s. *poke* What happened with the collab ¬.¬ Damn you :P

  • xGx : This is.... Strange man haha! Not a fan of that windy sound being as loud as it is. Some very nice riffage, those vocals got me by surprise, totally bizare... I think the Drums could be filled in a little bit at places, the clap that comes in just after the long bass drone intro after the wind kicks in should maybe be changed to make the beat a bit more solid. Or add a snare aswell and leave the clap where it is, Prby a high pitch short snappy one.

  • xGx : hey man, got your message ^-^ yeah I agree the lead on mine is a little quiet but i was unsure if it needed the extra boost. Im always up for a collab if we can work something out, i use Cubase5 with VST plugs and WAV / MP3 files etc so if you wanna try working something out it could be fun :)

  • xGx : You can sing better than me, doesnt mean your good though. Its not perfect, needs work. The music in the backround, the drum / bass loop is a little basic, it works but goes nowhere, You could really go somwhere with this! It sounds like a good start but you can do better man. Aim higher! :)

  • Finagrin : giggitygiggity dude. was all this lsdj?? if it was i'd love to know how you did your instruments. The only thing i'd add to this song is a bit of reverb on the last note to kinda fade it out maybe. but it's an awesome track.

  • Finagrin : I came back to listen to this song, and it is still gorgeous to listen to. so stoked you play by hand, and even more impressed that you don't read music. you should start learning and your skill would increase dramatically i reckon.

  • Finagrin : It's a good little song. the fading in notes and slides in pitch give me the mental image of fighting to stay concious.. well done with the background noise channel stuff also.
