Beeb-Track 0.1a screen shot

Uploaded by benanderson89 on August 5th 2009, 11:42 AM

A screen shot of my new music tracker, Beeb-Track. If you can't tell from the name, this tracker is for the BBC Microcomputer which houses a Texas Instruments SN76489 chip.
I've decided to develop this tracker instead of continuing with my SN-EMU.

BeebEm (a BBC emulator) is multi platform so it makes more sense to use an authentic tracker than a half hearted chip emulator.

The tracker has up to 70 patterns (this number may increase), each of which is one bar in length.

The tracker supports playback only so far.
Note input, the command column, envelopes, arpeggios, the pattern list and disk operations are still being worked on.

 • benanderson89 : @nordloef: It is theoretically possible but it would be horrendously slow and a memory hog. I'm trying to keep the actual application as small as possible (the entire playback routine is only 400 bytes for example) considering how generous I'm being with the note memory. A possible 1,120 independent lines with Beeb-Track compared to other 8-bit trackers which usually allow only 255 lines (possibly because they use an 8-bit register by the looks of things but I'm using a three dimensional array). Everything but the F5 key (stop) will be disabled to keep the playback quick and in sync. When nothing is playing you can edit away to your hearts desire, even complex stuff like editing the 14 envelope registers manually.
