After talking to PDF Format on #8bc about this I decided I was going to do it, but the more the merrier.
The idea of it is that in a timeframe of 30 days you are to write 30 songs. These songs can be a 10 second long melody and bassline or an epic, melodic 15 minute long piece.
There is little chance of actually completing 30 masterpieces, but that isn't the point. The point is to push your boundaries of what you would normally do.
Anyone interested?
Only rule is that each day you upload whatever progress you've made and put it into one file which is uploaded to 8bc, regardless of previous posts.
For example, I write 1 song and an idea on the first day, I record these into 1 mp3 and upload with the title "30 songs, 30 days challenge - Day 1".
The next day I'd record the same again and anything extra. This would be called "30 songs, 30 days challenge - Day 2".
...and so on.

but the 30 songs, its a bit much.
maybe 10?
but then again, i suppose you're pushing yourself more if it's a longer time period...
Has to be 30. At least an attempt at 30 without slacking.

I'm doing it from Friday if people want to join.

My music is rubbish, but maybe i'd get better if i made a song every day for a month. I'll do this if you don't mind ![]()

By all means join in.
I'm gonna be posting links to uploads in this thread with some comments maybe. That could be a good way to do it.
And I'll update the first post with participants.

Hmmm, I need to get back into the music making game, maybe something like this will force some creativity onto me, I'm not too keen on uploading each one to 8bc though, can I put them on my server them maybe make a "best of" and put that on 8bc? 8bc is clogged up with enough shit as it is ![]()

I think like, when youve made day 2, which includes all the tracks up to day 2, maybe your allowed to remove day 1... So that when youve finished, there's still only one track up, but its a really long track with 30 combined. so it wouldn't clog it up as much maybe?

I only said upload to 8bc as that is the only easy server space available to me.
But a daily upload is a good thing. It gives people a reason not to slack off.
I just realised that each person having 30 tracks might clog things up a bit.
Perhaps going with the ant boys idea would be best. To delete the previous day with the new update.
What do people think?

I think I'm in. I love the idea.
Ant boys suggestion makes sense, and will free up space. Unless someone has some spare server space to let everyone upload their 30day stuff to.
If each days tracks are getting combined into one super long track, should there be a specific sized gap left inbetween or maybe some sort of noise to symbolise the end of that days progress (just so anyone else listening back will have an idea of whats going on)?

i was just going to put microsoft sam saying "day one", "day two:" etc, between tracks...
Offline
About 5 seconds between things should be enough.
It doesn't have to be ages just make sure that one song is clearly over.

Ah right, cool.
Microsoft sam, nice. Full of ideas today ant boy ![]()

its a great idea, but i agree it will take up a lot of space to upload a track a day here. i was thinking maybe upload something every 7 days, which represents what you have made over the week, then the submissions will also appear on the front page which may also prompt more people to get involved. it could be in the format of a medley of the last 7 songs, or clips of each song, or a mix, or simply the songs back to back. sound good?

what i would do ...or will do when i do this... would be to upload the new song each day
delete it the next day
and upload just that days song
at the end of the 30 days put all 30 in a zip file and upload to mediafire or whatever
then link that in this thread

jonnyriddle read my mind
does this track have to be strictly chiptune? or can we add some samples, vst's etc...? (i probably wont JW)

I think the idea is to force some creativity into you rather than apply shedloads of rules onto the thing, As long as all 30 of your tracks aren't a downloaded MIDI file applied to a load of 8-bit VSTs ![]()

Yea, all sounding good to me.
A track a day to 8bc deleting the previous days work, then zipped file including all tracks at the end, seems the best option.
Means anybody listening in on the 27th day doesn't have to listen to the 26 days work before it.
I'm also a fan of nitro2k01's idea of releasing as a torrent.

a torrent would be great
plus, it'd give me a reason to actually seed something for once
hah
